Innovation is the only way EU can maintain a strong, sustainable and competitive economy. However, at present there are large imbalances between degrees of innovation of EU countries. One solution to mitigate this drawback is the development of collaborative networks. Here digital technologies like IoT or AI play an important role. Digital transition should be green to ensure environmental sustainability while also contributing to economic and social well-being. However, sometimes, Digitalization and Green are contradictory concepts. This lecture emphasizes the importance of digitalization for Society 5.0 but also highlights the need for Green IT solutions taking into account big societal challenges like energy consumption.

Prof. Adrian Florea, Assoc. Prof. Daniel Morariu, Assoc. Prof. Remus Brad and Raluca Brad are members of the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. They are researchers and lecturers, among others, in the fields of Data Mining, Machine Learning, Communication Protocols, High Performance Processor Design and Simulation and Dynamic Branch and Value Prediction. Prof. Adrian Florea  worked for over 24 years in interdisciplinary national and international research projects dealing with issues such as optimization problems in engineering domains, embedded systems, human capital evaluation, developing collaborative platform for knowledge transfer between academia and industry, creating digital tools for supporting communities of practice or mobile computing.
