This session will explore the need to promote positive risk taking in social work practice and taking a person-centered approach in risk assessments. It aims to explore the links between ethical dilemmas, previous negative experiences, and the pressure on professionals to be risk averse.
Michael Grant has worked in social care since 1985, qualifying as a social worker in 1991. Holding numerous roles in generic, and specialist hospital and community settings, his practice experience includes working with people with mental health issues, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and older people. He has been a lecturer in social work for fifteen years. He is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Bradford and the Admissions Tutor and Director of work placements and internships for the School of Social Sciences. His interests include Mental Health, Risk Assessment and Risk Management, International Social Work and Value Based Practice.
